Art & Design Intent Statement
Be confident communicators | Be knowledgeable | Be a good citizen | Be adventurous | Be ambitious |
At Belmont Cheveley Park Primary School, we value Art and Design as an important part of our children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Here at Cheveley, we want our children to feel inspired, excited and curious about Art & Design. To be successful in this, and for all children to reach their full potential, our curriculum is designed to provide children with opportunities to explore, adapt, design, think critically and create, whilst learning key techniques and art knowledge in order to develop their artistic skills along the way. Art contributes to children’s personal development in creativity, independence, judgement and self-reflection; it also allows pupils to develop a natural sense of wonder about the world around them. Our curriculum is focused on developing proficiency in the ‘key ingredients’ of art – colour, shape & form, pattern, tone, texture, line, particularly in Key Stage 1. In Key Stage 2, we strongly encourage our older children to dare to be adventurous, ambitious and support individual creative ideas of choice. We want our children to express their own individual interests, thoughts and ideas – being adventurous and ambitious is key to success. |
